Mr. Vicente

Born in Oaxaca, Mexico, Mr. Vicente moved to California as a five year old. This has provided Mr. Vicente with the immigrant experience that is quite familiar to many students at Venice High School.  Mr. Vicente enjoys his multicultural experience and shares his experiences with students in the classroom to provide motivation and to establish connections with students.

Mr. Vicente graduated from UCLA with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Anthropology. Following this, Mr. Vicente attended Cal State LA to work on his teaching credential in Spanish.

On campus, Mr. Vicente teaches for the World Language and Global Studies Magnet, and serves as the Department Chair for the World Languages Department. Mr. Vicente strongly believes in student activities and clubs as a way for students to develop their interests and identities. As such, Mr. Vicente sponsors the Gay Straight Alliance and co-sponsors the Spanish Club with Ms. Leon. Additionally, Mr. Vicente now works with the Delphians, a branch of the California Scholarship Federation as well as the Chatelaines and Esquires, our Junior year honor society and the Chatelaines & Esquires, our junior community service honor society.

Outside of the classroom, Mr. Vicente enjoys travelling and embarks on a new vacation every summer, sometimes with students through EF Tours. With students, Mr. Vicente has travelled to Costa Rica, Spain, and France, and Italy.  It is fun for Mr. Vicente to interact with the cultures of other countries and to find cultural artifacts to bring back into the classroom.  In Argentina, Mr. Vicente visited the Plaza de San Telmo and brought back some art pieces for the classroom from this flea market.  In the summer of 2015, Mr. Vicente took a road trip on the World’s Longest Yard Sale, driving from Alabama to Ohio, and picking up fun vintage items along the way.

Mr. Vicente is working on his Masters in Teaching of the Spanish Language at the University Of Guanajuato, Mexico during summers as part of a program with Southern Oregon University.

Currently, Mr. Vicente teaches Spanish I, II, III, IV and AP Spanish Language and Culture. Mr. Vicente enjoys working with his students and loves learning from them as much as he enjoys helping them discover a new way of communicating in Spanish!
