Just a Bit About Me:

I was born and raised in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania. I completed my undergraduate work and teaching credential at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and began my teaching career at Elizabethtown Middle School in Elizabethtown, PA as a Home Economics teacher.  After several years, I moved to California and shortly thereafter returned to teaching via LAUSD at Belmont High School. During my tenure at Belmont, I taught Home Economics and Business Education courses and also was the Leadership/Student Activities Advisor.  I found myself doing a lot of "counseling" in the classroom and went on to earn my Master's degree in Counseling and my PPS credential at Cal State Los Angeles.  Happily, I worked for an additional ten years as a counselor at Belmont.

As my commute on the 10 freeway continued to worsen and the demands of being the working mother of two young children increased, in 2000, I accepted a position as a counselor at Venice High School--several blocks from my home.  I started as a guidance counselor in the community Venice High School (P to Z)  and also worked as the AVID counselor and the NMA (New Media Academy) counselor for several years before taking the position as the counselor for the World Language and Global Studies Magnet School.  This is now my sixth year as the counselor for this award winning, college-prep  program.  I appreciate the vast diversity. The greatest thing about this job is the students.   I am proud of so many of my students and marvel at their accomplishments--academically, athletically, artistically and as active  participants in  their school and local community and an awareness of their role as global citizens.  I enjoy the people I work with and treasure the tremendous support that I get from parents, community members and retired Venice staff.  I'm also proud of the fact that my two children are both graduates of the World Language Magnet program.  They had a great experience, were prepared for university level work and made lifelong friendships at Venice High School.
