Biography

Welcome!  This fall will mark my second year at Venice and I'm diving right in!  In my capacity as a social studies teacher in the STEMM magnet program, my goal is to challenge students to consider the interactions between politics, innovation, history and science.  Stepping into the role of ASB Leadership advisor, I look forward to working with and assisting the talented student leaders we have at Venice in bringing their visions for the school to life!

After growing up in Chicago and being inspired by my own high school history teacher, I went on to complete my bachelor's degree in history at The Ohio State University.  In 2011, I earned a master's degree in teaching with an emphasis on social studies education, from Southern Illinois University.

One of my most meaningful experiences was taking an ESL teaching appointment from the South Korean Ministry of Education.  While living and working in Busan, South Korea, I absorbed as much as I could about their culture and the way they viewed education.  I found value in the way their society emphasized education and feel such attitudes could benefit many students in the United States.  Before coming to Venice, I taught upperclassmen at a high school on the South side of Chicago.  The experience validated my belief in bringing compassion to the classroom and establishing good relationships with students and families.  It also taught me that being resourceful and creative goes a long way when you are a teacher.  When families, teachers, and communities work together to educate our young people, success becomes the most likely outcome!

When I'm not in the classroom, I love to travel and explore as much as possible.  I can also be found with my camera capturing my adventures on film, cooking, trying to learn new languages, and watching Cary Grant movies.  This summer I toured Alaska and crossed an item off my bucket list: visiting all 50 states!
